When I got asked to review this mattress I researched the pros and cons in depth. I needed to know what made a mattress so unique before deciding whether to give it a go. I don’t really talk about it on the gram, but I suffer with scoliosis (a twisted spine) and have spent crazy money over the years on osteopaths, chiropractors and sports masseurs. I always explain to brands how I will always give an honest review of their product and I was delighted to see that Simba offer a 100 day trial on all their mattresses so if I wasn’t satisfied I wasn’t stuck with it.
I’ve always said that sleep is one of the most underestimated things we can do for our wellbeing, so much so it has a special section of it’s own in my journals.
The Simba Hybrid arrived within just a few days of ordering. I had both texts and emails to confirm delivery and was given a suitable slot to choose from. It comes in a compact box and I remember thinking when it arrived ‘How on earth is a mattress in that box?!’ but sure enough, it was and once on the bed I couldn’t fathom how it once lived in there! I mentioned on my Instagram stories I would be reviewing the mattress and very quickly received a sea of encouraging DM’s from others who had the same one and said it was brilliant! I think in total I had around 30 odd messages, along with 1 who had really struggled with it. I was keen to test this for myself!
The first week we slept on it, I won’t lie, it felt alien. That’s the only way I can describe it. The top layer of the mattress is like nothing else I’ve personally seen before and it just felt like ‘not our bed’. This meant it took me a little longer to get to sleep initially because, I guess even the most uncomfortable old mattress brings a feeling of familiarity.
I’d read a lot about the Simba mattress regulating your body temperature but the second week we had it was hotter than the sun! It meant sleeping with no covers on and all the windows open so to test this during this week was really hard. I was however starting to feel less surprised getting into bed, and falling asleep quicker. I also noticed a reduction in my back pain which surprised me. I have just got used to waking up stiff and in pain, so I didn’t anticipate much could change that. Anyone with back pain will understand how it just becomes life after a while and you don’t even expect it to improve. It was marginal, but enough for me to notice and I felt pretty electric! As a dancer, the idea of going to class and being able to move more easily was something I’d always dreamed of.
GAME CHANGER! Temperatures seemed to settle a little more at night, and I was feeling like this was ‘my bed’ again. But that wasn’t the most significant thing I noticed that week. Before the end of the week I woke up with no back pain. Zero! I could not believe it. It’s hard to explain but for me, the thing that causes such an issue is not the pain, but the fact that it always makes me feel drained and like I’m not rested. It’s caused me to really struggle to get going in the mornings in the past and often made me emotional and got me down as no amount of sleep or rest seems to leave me feeling recharged and alive. At this point, I won’t lie to you, I put it down to some crazy fluke. My back had suffered all my adult life and with all the specialists I’d seen I wasn’t going to accept at this point that a new mattress was the answer to my woes.
As we sailed into the final week reviewing the mattress I was consistently waking up pain free. Not only that, but I was finding that I could lie comfortably in a whole host of positions to sleep rather than the one and only position I use to find any comfort in prior. I could not believe that a mattress could have such a profound effect on how I was sleeping and then feeling the following day but at this point, I had to start giving Simba the credit. This mattress was genuinely doing what it said it would, and providing the perfect night’s sleep.
As I said earlier, I studied the technology around the mattress in depth (so as to allow my skeptical mind to accept a mattress could really be that fab) and there is a huge amount of cutting edge technology that goes into the brand and it’s designs, including 5 different layers with specific roles which are explained in my IGTV video. I’ll try and explain this in my words rather than theirs, but the memory foam top kinda ‘hugs’ you when you sleep on it, moulding to your shape. But somehow at the same time you are supported. It doesn’t feel like you’re sunken in. I guess, everyone has their preferred type of mattress; firm or soft, but this one kinda felt like both in a weird way. I personally found it to be a combination I got on with really well. I even had nights during this week where I was up with Freddie as he was cutting a new tooth, and even with broken sleep I was able to go back to sleep with such ease afterwards, whereas before it would take me a while as I was so stiff.
We are now a few more weeks into sleeping on the mattress and I am loving it. Genuinely and honestly I can’t fault the product. Hallelujah to no more trying to add less than average memory foam toppers to make amends. Simba has the whole package.
NEVER did I know the human body could exist on so little sleep, it’s pretty crazy, but becoming a mum did truly hit home to extremes how much sleep deprivation can affect us mentally and emotionally. Sleep is such an important part of how good we feel and I feel so pleased to be waking up with comfort.
I’m delighted to share that Simba have given me a £75 off code for any mattress you’d like to order so if you fancy giving this bad boy a whirl, take advantage of this fab offer by clicking here
I would like to thank Simba for sending us the product and asking us to review it. I hope you know how grateful I am for such opportunities as this, something I will never take for granted.
