August has flown around hasn’t it? I can’t quite believe that next week is the beginning of the new academic year already. I don’t know about you but I am ready for a little routine now. The summer holidays have been great fun, but September always brings a fresh new energy for me. I don’t know if that’s the same for all or just because I’ve worked in teaching all my life. Either way, I’m feeling refreshed and craving some structure.
I love the first few weeks back to school. September (and often October) brings sunshine these days so I feel like my summer wardrobe extends that extra bit. For that reason I picked a few summer pieces this month that I know will last into the little extended summer we get as we head into autumn.
This outfit brings me all the happiness. I’m a sucker for a simple classic look that gives all the practicality needed for looking after the kids but that doesn’t leave me feeling mumsy. These distressed mom jeans are just perfect. Slouchy and soft but nothing drab in sight. They are perfect for those with a curvier leg (I have never been blessed with supermodel legs being a dancer) and it’s one of the few pairs I own that don’t hug my calves! I went for a 10 which is my usual jean size and they are roomy.

The white floaty blouse just brings a bit of fem to the look, and the little embroidered flowers add some detail to rescue it from being ‘another plain white top’.
My more fancy picks this month were this sequin top (which I’ve worn out twice this month) and the maxi skirt of dreams.

I figured the sequin top would see me through the whole of summer and winter, acting as banging festival attire now and the perfect Christmas bit of glamour later in the year. It’s also an absolute bargain at just £20!
Maxi skirts are a dream for girls who don’t always like wearing jeans. I love wearing them with trainers and a sweatshirt. I find them comfy and long enough to lunge around picking up after everyone (my life brings all the glamour huh?). The UK likes to tease us with blistering heat one minute and cloudy skies the next and maxi’s are are really versatile item to cover all bases. I know I’m going to live in this beauty.

Finally, I invested in a pair of decent sunglasses for the first time in my life. I am the worst for owning pairs that cost about £8 and then scratching them to the point I can’t wear them or finding the screws fall out and I’m off our buying another pair! I suit a more cat eye shape and went for these bad boys. Never felt more demure in my life guys!
